Women in Science: Q&A with our team

Women in Science Day takes place on Friday 11th February. It marks a global celebration of the women who work and contribute to the many scientific discoveries we see every day.

At Blueprint, we support the involvement and leadership of all women around the world and recognise their contribution to research and innovation.

It’s important for us to understand why the women within various roles in our team love being a part of the energising world of science and pharmaceuticals. Here’s what they said…

Lindsay Widger – Project Director

Why you joined the world of pharma/science

The industry is completely relevant and is constantly evolving. I wanted to maintain my science background but apply it in a more commercial and people-orientated environment.

What do you find most interesting?

I love learning and keeping up with a variety of the latest therapy areas and innovative methodologies to enable rich and valuable interactions with physicians and patients.

What would say to others about your role?

No one day is the same. It’s fast-paced, but you learn so much! From clients – understanding their strategy, seeing their successes and setbacks. From doctors – understanding how they make decisions today and what they strive to achieve in the future.  And from patients – gaining an understanding of the true burden of disease and their hopes for the future.

Hollie Hamilton – Research Executive

Why you joined the world of pharma/science?

Throughout my studies, I excelled in chemistry and biology, and pharmacology provided the opportunity to combine these interests. While science is my key interest, I have always been very business-minded and so, I was keen to move into the commercial side of this industry.

What do you find most interesting?

I thrive on my work contributing to the strategic decisions of the world’s top pharma companies. I don’t believe there are many other roles where I could get this exposure so early on in my career.

What would say to others about your role?

My role can be demanding at times, but it is always very rewarding. My work directly influences key decisions in a pharmaceutical treatment’s lifecycle, and I am fortunate enough to deep dive into a whole host of therapeutic areas and their respective treatments.

Sruti Dasgupta – Research Manager

Why you joined the world of pharma/science?

Simply, my curiosity took the better of me and I really wanted to understand the world of pharmaceuticals and my constant need for facts!

What do you find most interesting?

The pharmaceutical industry is advancing constantly: opening new horizons, energising me further.

What would say to others about your role?

I was keen to experience life outside a laboratory, but also utilise my scientific background. So, I joined the field of pharmaceutical market research. It took me by surprise and made me realise how important it is to really understand people’s reasons and motivations for their actions and beliefs through deep and thoughtful analysis.
